Travel grants

We offer a number of travel grants to support students. You are eligible if you are enrolled as a PhD Student and you should not be a current member of graduate school/program that covers travel expenses. These grants are intended to support covering accommodation and travel expenses.

  • CEPLAS Equal Opportunity and Diversity Office awards 3 travel grants up to 1500 € each, to support female Early Career Researchers who are currently PhD students in attending the CEPLAS/IPK Summer School 2024. The main target group of the grants are female PhD students, who exhibit a strong drive and clear vision for how the summer school can significantly advance their professional trajectory.  We understand that financial limitations can often be a barrier to accessing such events, especially for students traveling from countries distant from Germany. Thus, these grants are designed to bridge that gap, ensuring that motivated female early career researchers have the opportunity to engage fully in the summer school.
  • Two grants are funded by the competence area Food Security and will be available to support young researchers from the Global South with up to 1500 Euro. The competence area Food Security at the University of Cologne embeds CEPLAS efforts to improve plant productivity within a broader societal context and to promote interdisciplinary knowledge transfer. Food security research is an excellent example of the need for interdisciplinary partnership of biological science with economics, social science, law, medicine and the humanities. The main target group of the grants are PhD students from global south, who can demonstrate the relevance of their scientific project to global food security.
  • A limited number of travel grants covering travel expenses of students coming from abroad will be provided (100 Euro grant, plus free registration fee).
